Bridgewater Fair

Photos of the Bridgewater Fair 1936 taken by Gerald Fischer & a 1940s photo of the Bridgewater Hall taken by his father. The Bridgewater Fair was held on Easter Saturday and it possibly began in 1916 to raise funds to build the Bridgewater Institute.

The Rural Deanery

A drawing of Benjamin Deanes first hotel at Cox’s Creek on the bullock track to Mount Barker. Donated by Gerald Fischer, it is from the Frome Collection in the Library of the Royal Empire Society, London. On the back the following is written: The Rural Deanery March 1943.

Police Memorial on Waverley Ridge

15 photos showing the Police Heritage Dedication Ceremony which was held in April 1995 unveiling the Memorial on Waverley Ridge road, Stirling. The memorial was unveiled jointly by Stirling District Council Mayor Anita Aspinall & Police Commissioner D A Hunt. The Memorial is to 3 police officers: Sergeant Cecil William Sparkes & Special Constables Mervyn George Casey & Colin Roy Kroemer.  They died while fighting a bushfire near Upper Sturt in January 1951. They were on foot fighting the fire with knapsack sprays. 8 of the photos were from SAPOL & 7 were taken by Jill Ahlberg.

Hymn Books

No: 4695001 has the title ‘Congregational Praise’ and it is from the Mt Lofty Congregational Church. It was published by Independent Press Ltd for the Congregational Union of England & Wales. It was first published in 1951 with the 5th Impression published in 1956.

No. 4696001 is titled ‘The Australian Hymn Book’ which was published by Collins in 1977 & it is the Harmony Edition with the Catholic Supplement. It comes from the Aldgate Uniting Church.
