A new chapter in our history……….<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of our most useful and frequently used resources, which also occupies an important place on the bookshelves of many locals, is the book titled “Under Mount Lofty<\/a>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This comprehensive hardcover history of the Stirling district by respected historian and academic Robert Martin, was originally published in 1987 by the Stirling Council, in conjunction with the Mt. Lofty Districts Historical Society. A richly informative book, with many fine photographs, it was revised and enlarged for the 2nd edition, published by the Council in 1996.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately these two editions have been out of print for some years, but they do appear from time to time from on-line sales sites and second-hand book sellers.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly afterwards, in 1997, the Stirling District Council amalgamated with the district councils of Onkaparinga<\/a> and East Torrens<\/a> to its north, and the District Council of Gumeracha<\/a>, to form the much larger Adelaide Hills Council<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Beyond Mount Lofty” is the title of a new work in progress from Robert Martin which carries the history of the wider district forward from Council amalgamation to the present day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mount Lofty Districts Historical Society Inc and the author are thankful for the support of the History Trust of South Australia, The Stirling Market and the Adelaide Hills Council who have contributed to the development, printing and on-line publication of this work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
