The initiative for the event came from the Catholic Church, and in particular Mrs Lilian Schuman, however the organising of the re-enactment soon became multi denominational. Each year the traditional Christmas story was re-enacted by community members. Participants and audience members also enjoyed singing Christmas carols. Much to the delight of many children, animals were often used as part of the performance, including a sheep and a donkey.

The audience, who generally came armed with picnic rugs, food and drink, gathered on the hillside of the natural amphitheatre of Apex Park (Merrion Terrace, Stirling). The re-enactment began just after sunset and the glow of candles was a beautiful site.

Unfortunately we have very little information about the people in this photograph with the exception of the lady playing the angel who we believe to be Annie Luur Fox.

The MLDHS Archive holds a collection of photographs of the event but we would love to hear from you.
